Founder and Artistic Director Bernard H. Gaddis is proud to announce the beginning of Contemporary West Dance Theatre’s 2023 season, “CWDT Is Like A Box of Chocolates and Sometimes you just need something Sweet!!”.
On February 24-25, 2023, at the West Las Vegas Library Theatre.
Each February, CWDT commemorates Black History Month to honor the immeasurable contributions of Black Americans, whose experiences, art, and stories have always enriched the fabric of what it means to be an American. Black history is American history, Black culture is American culture, and Black stories are American stories. CWDT will present four works: “Portraits” choreographed by: Zane Booker of the Nederland Dance Theatre which is a tribute to civil rights activist James Baldwin, Josephine Baker, Anne McCarthy Braden, John Brown and Gloria Steinem. “Nina” choreographed by: Avree Walker dedicate to the late great Nina Simone, “Fractured” by Founding Director Bernard H. Gaddis, and “Starburst” also choreographed by Gaddis using music by Black Classical female composer Jessie Montgomery.
Contemporary West Dance Theatre (CWDT), is a multicultural nonprofit organization founded in March 2007 by Bernard H. Gaddis and Charmaine Hunter. These former principal dancers from the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater and Dance Theatre of Harlem (respectively) created Las Vegas’ first premiere contemporary modern dance company, named by the Las Vegas Review Journal as one of the “Fab Four” arts organizations in Nevada. The company has a dance methodology that integrates classical and modern paradigms with an athleticism that gives audiences a more profound dance experience. CWDT dancers are passionate, relatable, and highly skilled, and have been bringing virtuoso performances to the stage that have excited and inspired audiences around the world for over a decade. CWDT was voted “Best Dance Company to Represent Las Vegas” two years in a row, and its Founder and Artistic Director, Bernard H. Gaddis, was recently Awarded Best Choreographer in Las Vegas.
